What to wear to the shoot?

There are no hard and fast rules of what to wear for your portrait, but here are some pointers to consider:

Choose whether your portrait is to be formal or casual and get all family members to dress accordingly, try

not to mix styles. Wear clothes that your family would normally wear, so your style and character come through - you will then be more comfortable with your look.
Avoid logos or branding as these will distract from the people in the portrait.
Pastel or light colours are more flattering, keeping the emphasis on the faces.
Think of your colour scheme. If you have a place in a room picked out to hang your portrait, try to compliment the clothes with the environment of the room.

Babies and young children

Book your portrait with your baby in mind, avoid meal and nap times. Have a favourite toy handy which can be used as a prop, but don’t bring goodies as these can add to anxiety. You can promise a treat after the session.
